Record collector and DJ Sheila Burgel has spent most of her life in the the dusty old record shops of New York, Tokyo, London, and Paris, in pursuit of the liquorice-black vinyl that has been the foundation for much of her work as a DJ, music historian, compilation producer, and radio host. She has produced and written the liner notes for several compilations including Rhino Records’ Grammy nominated One Kiss Can Lead to Another: Girl Group Sounds Lost & Found box set and Ace Records/ Big Beat’s ’60s Japanese girl-pop compilation series, Nippon Girls. She DJs her record collection at parties and events worldwide and currently hosts “Sophisticated Boom Boom” on Fridays from 3pm – 6pm on WFMU, the longest running freeform radio station in the US.
She’ll be spinning a mix of ‘60s girl groups, British freakbeat, Northern Soul, soundtracks, doo wop, French Yé-Yé, R&B, easy listening, Japanese fuzz-pop for your drinking and dancing pleasure. !!!!!!!
